Stakeholders are advocating stronger support for inclusive Mathematics education to help learners with visual impairment achieve their full potential.
The call comes amid concerns that many visually impaired students continue to face barriers such as inadequate learning materials, limited assistive devices and insufficiently trained teachers. Experts say these challenges can affect academic performance and reduce opportunities in science, technology and other Mathematics-related careers.
Speaking after a recent Train-the-Trainers workshop in Lagos, education advocates stressed that well-trained teachers remain the foundation of inclusive learning. The workshop equipped resource teachers with specialised teaching techniques and tools designed to make Mathematics more accessible to learners with visual impairment.
The Lagos State Office for Disability Affairs (LASODA) also reaffirmed its commitment to inclusive education, highlighting ongoing efforts to support students with disabilities. Stakeholders say sustained investment and stronger partnerships are essential to ensuring that every learner has equal access to quality education and opportunities for success.
