The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, has been appointed Grand Patron of the Yoruba elders’ council, “Egbe Olodo Ide Igbimo Agbagba Ile Yoruba.”

According to a statement from the Ooni’s Palace, one of the monarch’s queens, Olori Ashley, was also installed as the Iyalode of the organisation in recognition of her cultural advocacy efforts.

The group said the appointments were in honour of the Ooni’s commitment to preserving and promoting Yoruba culture, language and traditions. The organisation also stressed the need to strengthen cultural education among younger generations.

Responding, the Ooni described the initiative as timely and pledged continued support for efforts aimed at promoting Yoruba heritage, unity and tradition across generations.
