2027: INEC URGES YOUTHS, WOMEN TO PROMOTE PEACEFUL, INCLUSIVE ELECTIONS

Listen

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has called on youths and women in Ogun State to promote peaceful participation and help ensure credible, inclusive elections ahead of the 2027 general polls.

The Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in Ogun, Mrs Feyijimi Saseyi, made the appeal at an election stakeholders’ forum organised by INEC in Abeokuta on Tuesday, November 3, 2026. She urged young people to collect their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), vote and resist attempts to involve them in violence, thuggery or vote buying.

Saseyi called on youth organisations to mobilise members, discourage political violence and promote informed voting and responsible election observation. She also urged women’s groups to sustain advocacy for greater participation, saying women should be encouraged to take part as voters, candidates, party agents and election officials without fear of intimidation or harassment.

The REC reaffirmed INEC’s commitment to inclusive elections, particularly for Persons with Disabilities (PWDs), through accessible polling units, assistive materials and priority voting arrangements. She also pledged that the commission would remain impartial, transparent and accountable, deploy personnel and materials early, and conduct the elections in line with the Constitution, Electoral Act 2026 and its regulations.

Ogun Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, assured residents of adequate security before, during and after the elections, while urging stakeholders to embrace peaceful engagement. The Alake of Egbaland, Oba Aremu Gbadebo, also pledged the support of traditional rulers and called on INEC to protect ballot secrecy, stressing that voters’ choices must remain confidential.
