The Nigerian Army Resource Centre (NARC), in collaboration with King’s College London, has launched a strategic leadership course to equip senior military officers and other stakeholders with skills to respond to emerging security threats, including those driven by artificial intelligence (AI).
The Director-General of NARC, retired Maj.-Gen. James Myam, said this on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, in Abuja at the inauguration of the Strategic Leadership Course 2/2026. He noted that the growing use of AI was creating new vulnerabilities and risks that required strategic thinking, adaptability and informed leadership.
Myam said the programme was designed to strengthen participants’ understanding of contemporary threats and help them develop appropriate responses to an evolving security environment. He explained that the course, organised twice yearly, exposes senior leaders of the Armed Forces of Nigeria and other stakeholders to current geostrategic issues.
The first phase of the programme focuses on adaptive leadership amid shifting global norms, alliances and geopolitical competition in Africa, with emphasis on implications for Nigeria. The second phase examines adaptive leadership and national security, particularly the challenges posed by AI and social vulnerabilities in a changing global order.
Myam urged participants to engage actively with resource persons and draw on their professional experiences, while commending King’s College London for sustaining the partnership. Speaking on behalf of the institution, Team Lead Ralph Kent said Nigeria was increasingly affected by global changes, adding that the collaboration provided a platform to explore leadership responses to complex security and governance challenges.
