The Chairman of Pankshin Local Government Council in Plateau State, Felix Gonung, has vowed to intensify efforts to tackle suspected ritual killings following two reported deaths within a month, with vital organs allegedly missing from both victims.
Gonung made the pledge during an interview with journalists on Friday, October 9, in Pankshin, disclosing that three suspects were arrested after a woman’s body was discovered last month. He said investigators reportedly recovered suspected fetish substances from the suspects, who have since been transferred to the police headquarters in Jos for further investigation.
The council chairman also confirmed that security agencies were investigating the discovery of a young man’s body at Monday Market on October 6, with some vital organs allegedly missing. He said investigators were examining the possibility of links to cult activities among students or criminal elements operating within the student community.
Gonung assured residents that the council was working with security agencies to restore peace and protect lives and property. He also announced plans to introduce a policy requiring landlords and hotel operators to provide information about their tenants and guests, respectively, to help identify individuals suspected of engaging in criminal activities.
The chairman urged residents to remain calm and vigilant while reporting suspicious activities to the relevant authorities. He also called for stronger cooperation among security agencies, traditional rulers, religious leaders and community stakeholders, emphasising that maintaining security required collective responsibility.
