TINUBU’S INDEPENDENCE DAY ADDRESS: NIGERIA MOVING FROM REFORM TO PROSPERITY

Listen

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has declared that Nigeria has moved beyond the difficult phase of his administration’s economic reforms and is now entering an era focused on shared prosperity, job creation and improved living standards.

In his Independence Day address, Tinubu said the economy grew by more than four per cent in 2026, while inflation had fallen from its peak, foreign reserves had been rebuilt and the foreign exchange market stabilised. He also said non-oil exports reached a record $6 billion in 2025, describing the developments as evidence that Nigeria’s economic direction had improved.

The President said the next phase would focus on reducing the cost of living by boosting agricultural production, irrigation and mechanisation, improving storage and transport, and investing in roads, railways and ports. He also pledged to expand industrial production, digital connectivity, access to business finance and skills development to create more productive jobs, particularly for young Nigerians.

Tinubu acknowledged that millions still struggle with food, education, healthcare and transportation costs. He said the government would strengthen social support, education loans, consumer credit and basic public services while pursuing sustained economic growth. “The age of reform has done its work. Now begins the age of prosperity,” he said, urging Nigerians to move forward with renewed hope and confidence in the country’s future.
