IRAN ANNOUNCES CASH REWARDS FOR CAPTURING OR KILLING U.S. SOLDIERS

Listen

Iran’s army has announced cash rewards for people who kill or capture U.S. soldiers who enter Iranian territory as attackers, according to army spokesman Amir Akraminia. The reported announcement comes amid the continuing conflict between Iran and the United States and Israel.

Akraminia said anyone who kills a U.S. soldier and hands over the body or captures one alive would qualify for a reward. He said the payment would be about 17,500 euros for men and 35,000 euros for women. Iranian reports have also indicated that people from other countries in the region could be eligible.

The announcement comes against the backdrop of the war that began with U.S. and Israeli attacks on Iran in February. The conflict has continued alongside stalled diplomatic efforts, with the Strait of Hormuz remaining a major point of contention because of its importance to global energy shipping.

Iran has also continued to warn that it is prepared to respond to any renewed U.S. military action. Iranian officials have linked the future of the Strait of Hormuz to broader negotiations over the conflict, while reports have included speculation about possible limited U.S. ground operations in Iran.

The reported reward programme adds another dimension to the escalating rhetoric surrounding the conflict, as diplomatic efforts continue amid disagreements over military operations, sanctions, the Strait of Hormuz and Iran’s broader security concerns.
