The Lagos State Government, through the Ministry of Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation (WAPA), has trained 1,700 market women, men, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and young adults in digital marketing to support business growth and livelihoods.
The Commissioner for WAPA, Mrs Cecilia-Dada Bolaji, disclosed this, on Wednesday September 30, at the graduation ceremony for participants in Agege. She said the three-day training, themed “From Local Business to Global Market: Leveraging Digital Marketing for Business Growth,” was designed to equip beneficiaries with practical skills to promote their businesses and reach more customers.
Bolaji said the ministry also distributed tablets and Android phones to participants to enable them to apply the skills acquired. She urged the graduates to continue learning and make productive use of digital platforms to improve their businesses.
The Permanent Secretary of WAPA, Mrs Rianat Onigbanjo, said the programme would help participants strengthen their businesses and create new economic opportunities. She commended Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the commissioner and Liquid Luck Consulting for supporting and facilitating the initiative.
Uchenna Ogbonna, a beneficiary, who sells and installs solar, inverter and generator systems, said the training helped him attract more than five prospective customers in one day online. Other beneficiaries, including caterer Aisha Falola and shoemaker Mariam Sanusi, said the skills would help them expand their reach through online platforms.
Previous beneficiaries also reported using the training to promote businesses in farming, events planning, decoration and other services, with some saying it had helped them attract customers from beyond their immediate communities.
