The Federal Fire Service (FFS), FCT Command, on Tuesday September 29, warned residents against walking or driving through floodwaters as rainfall intensifies across the Federal Capital Territory.
The command’s Public Relations Officer, Barnabas Anyam, said even shallow floodwater on roads could pose serious risks to lives and property. He advised residents caught in floods to remain calm and move immediately to higher ground.
Anyam urged residents to keep children away from floodwaters and open culverts, switch off electrical appliances during rainfall, and move valuables, important documents and essential supplies to safer locations. He also advised households to prioritise the evacuation of children, elderly persons and people with disabilities and avoid using potentially contaminated floodwater.
The FFS FCT Controller, Muhammed Anas, urged residents to cooperate with emergency responders, follow safety instructions and promptly report flood incidents. Residents can contact the FFS FCT emergency line on 0803 200 3557 during emergencies.
