The fifth edition of the ArtMiabo International Art Festival has opened in Abuja, bringing together emerging and established artists, art enthusiasts and stakeholders in Nigeria’s culture and creative sector.
The four-day festival, themed “African Art: Heritage and Legacy,” is holding from Monday Sept. 28 to Thursday Oct. 1 at the FCT Exhibition Pavilion. It features contemporary artworks exploring African heritage, identity, culture and history, alongside live music, cultural performances and opportunities for visitors to interact with participating artists.
Festival convener, Miabo Enyadike, said the event was designed to connect artists with collectors, government officials, embassies and other institutions that could support their careers. She also stressed the need to preserve and restore artworks that form part of Nigeria’s cultural heritage for future generations.
Participating artists said their works explored themes including identity, memory, history and social issues, while also highlighting the importance of documenting and protecting artworks. They called for stronger institutional support, better storage facilities and reduced logistics challenges to help Nigerian artists access international markets.
The festival also features the Nigeria Art Legacy Forum, workshops and masterclasses, live art, cultural performances, and artisanal food and drinks. Organisers said the programme seeks to promote Nigerian art while strengthening opportunities for artists within the local and global creative economy.
