The U.S. military has completed its withdrawal from Iraq, according to an Iraqi government official, following a 2024 agreement between Washington and Baghdad to wind down the U.S.-led military mission.
The withdrawal comes as tensions continue in the wider region. U.S. President Donald Trump has said he expects more talks with Iran this week, despite rejecting Tehran’s latest proposal during indirect negotiations.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has said Tehran remains interested in a diplomatic solution. The two sides, however, continue to differ over key conditions for any agreement.
