The Federal Government is seeking stronger international partnerships to tackle terrorism, banditry, oil theft, cybercrime and other emerging security threats.
Minister of Defence, retired Gen. Christopher Musa, said Nigeria’s security challenges have become too interconnected for any single institution or country to address alone. He called for cooperation involving government, communities, international partners, civil society, researchers and the private sector.
Musa spoke on the sidelines of the 81st United Nations General Assembly in New York. Meanwhile, Special Adviser to the President on Homeland Security, retired Maj.-Gen. Adeyinka Famadewa, said Nigeria is working toward a threat-driven security strategy that would identify major threats, assess capability gaps and help prioritise resources.
The government says the approach will also support a five-year framework for acquiring critical security capabilities and strengthening domestic defence production.
