Nigeria’s Stallions finished sixth at the African Men’s Sevens Series in Kampala, Uganda, after a determined campaign that saw the team improve on its pre-tournament ranking.
The Stallions began Day Two with a 26-14 defeat to eventual champions Zimbabwe, following an earlier 36-5 loss to Morocco. Nigeria responded with a hard-fought 25-22 victory over Senegal to secure a place in the fifth-place playoff.
However, Tunisia proved stronger in the playoff, defeating Nigeria 19-7 to claim fifth place. Despite the setback, the Stallions’ sixth-place finish represented an improvement on their position before the tournament.
In other decisive matches, Morocco recovered from an early setback to edge Zambia 19-17 and claim the bronze medal, while Zimbabwe defeated hosts Uganda 26-19 in the final to win the championship. Uganda finished runners-up.
The Stallions’ campaign tested their resilience and fighting spirit, with the team leaving Kampala with an improved standing and valuable experience ahead of future African rugby sevens competitions.
