Nigeria’s U-17 women’s team, the Flamingos, have been crowned champions of the 2026 WAFU-U17 Girls’ Cup after defeating Togo 4-0 in the final on Sunday, September 27, in Yamoussoukro, Côte d’Ivoire.
The Hakeem Busari-led side completed an unbeaten campaign by winning all five matches, including victories over Ghana and hosts Côte d’Ivoire. Captain Chidi Harmony set the tone in the final with two first-half penalties in the 15th and 35th minutes.
The Flamingos continued their dominance after the break, with Olubebube Umejiaku extending the lead in the 67th minute before Oluwakemi Adegbuyi completed the 4-0 victory in the 90th minute.
Harmony said the team was proud of its achievement, describing the feat of winning all five matches as a difficult task. She particularly highlighted the victories over Ghana and Côte d’Ivoire as important moments in the campaign.
The Flamingos will now shift their attention to the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup finals in Morocco from Oct. 17 to Nov. 8. Nigeria has been drawn in Group B alongside North Korea, Puerto Rico and Poland.
