Ibrahim Akolade has emerged the best boxer at the 150th Lagos Central Division Championship of the Lagos Boxing Hall of Fame (LBHF), following an impressive performance at the one-day tournament in Yaba, Lagos on Saturday, September 26.
The championship, held at the Mobolaji Johnson Sports Centre, Rowe Park, was organised by LBHF in collaboration with the Lagos State Boxing Association (LABA). The event featured 10 bouts involving male and female boxers across various weight classes, as well as two exhibition bouts involving secondary school students.
Akolade of Mainland defeated Isah Jimoh of Lagos West LCDA by a 4-1 decision, displaying sharp jabs, good footwork and a decisive uppercut to claim the best boxer award. The 150th edition attracted boxers from 10 local councils and LCDAs, continuing LBHF’s monthly amateur boxing development programme across Lagos’ five divisions.
LBHF founder Wale Edun described the divisional championship as a pathway to the Governor’s Belt, with champions from Ikeja, Badagry, Ikorodu, Lagos Island and Epe expected to compete for the overall IBILE Champion title on Dec. 26. LBHF Director David Mohammed said the competition was gaining momentum, while Akolade expressed hope of progressing to the world stage and eventually winning a WBC title.
