Nigerian content creator and self-styled financial expert, Ojaigho Prosper, popularly known as GehGeh, has criticised Burna Boy’s reported purchase of a ₦9 billion Bugatti Chiron, describing the luxury car as a “financial mistake”.
GehGeh made the remarks in a social media video, on Wednesday September 23, questioning the practicality of owning an ultra-luxury vehicle on Nigerian roads. He compared the Bugatti with more conventional cars and urged the Grammy-winning singer to sell the vehicle and invest the proceeds in community development, solar power projects or youth employment.
He also criticised the reported purchase against the backdrop of poor road infrastructure and economic hardship in the country. His comments have triggered debate on social media over celebrity luxury spending, personal wealth and expectations of social responsibility.
The controversy followed Burna Boy’s reported appearance in Lagos in a customised, one-of-one Venuum wide-body Bugatti Chiron VXX. A viral video showed the singer driving the vehicle after leaving a popular club, attracting crowds who gathered around the car and followed it through the streets.
The sighting has also generated discussion about the practicality of driving the ultra-low hypercar on Lagos roads, with some social media users questioning how it would handle speed bumps and rough surfaces.
