Nigeria’s Falconets have reached the quarter-finals of the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup after a commanding 3-0 victory over England in a dominant knockout-stage performance.
Tosin Rafiu gave Nigeria the perfect start, opening the scoring in the seventh minute as the Falconets took a 1-0 lead into half-time. Nigeria continued to control proceedings after the restart, with Janet Akekoromowei doubling the advantage just two minutes into the second half.
England struggled to respond as Nigeria maintained their dominance, before Mary Mamudu sealed the emphatic victory with the Falconets’ third goal in the 72nd minute.
Akekoromowei’s goal further underlined her growing influence at the tournament following her move to Benfica in July.
Nigeria will now focus on the quarter-finals as they continue their bid for the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup title.
