Nigeria continues to strengthen its fight against terrorism through military operations, intelligence sharing, financial surveillance, legal measures and cooperation with neighbouring countries.
Security forces have recorded several major rescue operations in recent months. These include the rescue of 21 hostages in Kogi and Kwara in August, more than 300 abducted people in Niger and Kwara, and 391 kidnapped victims during coordinated operations in June.
The government also uses frameworks such as the Terrorism (Prevention and Prohibition) Act 2022, the National Counter Terrorism Centre and the National Counter Terrorism Strategy to coordinate counter-terrorism efforts and disrupt terrorist financing.
Despite these measures, fear remains a major concern for many communities. The report highlights the trauma suffered by victims, concerns over ransom payments and the challenge of rebuilding public trust.
Security analysts also say citizens have a role to play by reporting suspicious activities through official security channels, avoiding the spread of unverified information and supporting lawful community security initiatives.
