Tourism stakeholders across Africa are calling for increased travel within the continent and stronger partnerships to help unlock Africa’s tourism potential.
Speaking at the 22nd Akwaaba Africa Travel Market in Lagos, stakeholders highlighted the role of easier travel policies and industry partnerships in encouraging Africans to explore destinations within the continent. Consaga Khisa of Kenya’s Destination Connect said the removal of visa requirements for Nigerian travellers had encouraged more Nigerians to visit Kenya.
Sandra Nshuti of Rwanda-based Bertab Journeys also said visa-free entry between Nigeria and Rwanda had generated interest among travellers and tour operators. She encouraged Africans to explore the different cultures, landscapes and experiences available across the continent.
Meanwhile, Gabon Highlights Tourism CEO Grace Mboumba called for increased intra-African travel while stressing the importance of conservation and protecting the authenticity of tourism destinations. The stakeholders said stronger connections among African tourism businesses could create more opportunities across the continent.
