The Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN), Nasarawa State Branch, has declared an indefinite strike over demands it says remain unresolved by the state government and the Judicial Service Commission.
The union said its demands include the implementation of the 40 per cent Peculiar Allowance, financial autonomy for the judiciary, a 58.1 per cent salary increase, pending conversions and promotions, as well as the approved 40-year service period and 65-year retirement age.
JUSUN said it had explored avenues for an amicable resolution but decided to withdraw its services until its demands are addressed. It directed judiciary staff across the state’s 13 Local Government Areas to stay away from work.
The declaration came a day after the National Industrial Court in Abuja issued an interim order restraining JUSUN in Nasarawa from embarking on the planned strike. The order remains in force pending the hearing and determination of the motion on notice.
