Nigerian comedian and actress Anita Asuoha, popularly known as Real Warri Pikin, on the evening of Monday, September 14, put out an apology on her Instagram page to her husband and Nigerians, following widespread reactions to her viral stage encounter with singer Timaya at the 2026 AFRIMMA Awards in Dallas, Texas.
A video from the event showed Timaya lifting the comedian during his performance of “Ukwu”. Real Warri Pikin, who won the Best Stand-Up Comedian award at the ceremony, said the moment was unplanned, explaining that she joined the singer on stage after he called for a female fan during his performance.
Asuoha said she initially hesitated when she realised Timaya intended to lift her but eventually agreed after the singer urged her not to interrupt the performance. She said the video attracted mixed reactions, including criticism from some social media users who referenced her marriage and called for its dissolution.
The comedian accepted responsibility for her actions and apologised to those disappointed by the incident, while making it clear that she had no intention of leaving her marriage. She has been married to Ikechukwu Asuoha since 2013, and they have three children. Neither Ikechukwu nor Timaya had publicly commented on the controversy as of the time of the report.
