Nigeria’s U-17 women’s team, the Flamingos, have arrived in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, ahead of the second WAFU-B U-17 Girls’ Tournament in Yamoussoukro.
The 20-player squad, led by coach Hakeem Busari, departed Abuja on Monday, September 14, and will face Niger Republic in their opening match on Wednesday, September 16, before taking on Ghana’s Princesses on Saturday, September 19.
The tournament serves as a major preparatory competition for the Flamingos ahead of the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in Morocco from Oct. 17 to Nov. 8. Nigeria have been drawn in Group B alongside North Korea, Puerto Rico and Poland.
The squad comprises three goalkeepers, seven defenders, five midfielders and five forwards, with players drawn from clubs and academies including Bayelsa Queens, Delta Queens, FC Robo Queens, Nasarawa Amazons, Remo Stars Ladies and Heartland Queens.
