The Nigerian Army’s Guards Brigade has commenced the tactical phase of Exercise Shining Star for soldiers of the 90 Regular Recruits Intake, following the completion of their initial seven-week military training.
Commander of the Guards Brigade, Brig.-Gen. Adebisi Onasanya, on Monday September 14, declared the exercise open at the Gen. O.A. Azazi Parade Ground, Gwagwalada, Abuja. He charged the recruits to translate their training into disciplined and effective field operations while remaining mentally alert and professional.
Onasanya said the exercise was designed to strengthen the recruits’ combat effectiveness, tactical skills and battlefield coordination through realistic field training. He also stressed the importance of intelligence sharing and cooperation among participating security agencies to improve their ability to respond to emerging security threats.
The Commander urged the recruits to demonstrate initiative, precision and discipline while adhering to operational standards and prioritising safety. The exercise, hosted by the Commanding Officer of 176 Guards Battalion, Lt.-Col. Dimeji Ajongbo, involves Guards Brigade personnel and other security agencies and is aimed at strengthening interoperability and mutual understanding.
