Wheelchair American Football is attracting growing attention in Nigeria following an exhibition game held in Lagos, with stakeholders highlighting the need for greater opportunities for athletes with disabilities.
Lawrence Ojaideh, Founder of Wheelchair American Football in Nigeria, described the exhibition as a significant milestone for inclusive sports in Nigeria and Africa. He said the initiative is identifying and developing elite talents while building structured pathways from grassroots participation.
Ojaideh also called on corporate organisations, diplomatic missions, educational institutions and government agencies to support the development of the sport. Plans are also underway to establish Tackle Football and Flag Football leagues.
Four teams participated in the exhibition. Liberty Pioneer defeated Iron Invicta 13–0, Atlantic Chargers beat Lagos Dynamos 7–0, while Liberty Pioneer defeated Atlantic Chargers 10–3. The event attracted representatives from the U.S. and South African diplomatic missions, as well as universities and other stakeholders.
