Adamawa State Governor Ahmadu Fintiri has declared three days of mourning in honour of former Governor of the old Gongola State and former National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, who died on Saturday.
Fintiri described Tukur’s death as a monumental loss to Adamawa and Nigeria, praising the late elder statesman, businessman and politician for his contributions to public service and national development. He said he would personally miss Tukur’s wisdom, experience and counsel on matters concerning the state and the country.
The governor directed that flags be flown at half-mast across Adamawa throughout the mourning period and extended condolences to the deceased’s family, associates and the people of the state. He prayed for Allah to forgive Tukur’s shortcomings and grant him Aljannatul Firdaus.
Meanwhile, National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Sen. David Mark, also mourned Tukur, describing his death as a great loss to Nigeria. Mark said the former Gongola governor, Minister of Industries and PDP chairman belonged to a generation of leaders whose decades of service contributed to Nigeria’s political, economic and administrative development.
Mark said Tukur’s wisdom and experience would be greatly missed, particularly at a time when the country needed the counsel of its older generation of leaders. He commiserated with the Tukur family, the Adamawa Government and people, as well as the late statesman’s political associates.
Bamanga Tukur passed away on Saturday, September 12 2026, in Abuja, at the age of 90.
