Nigeria is positioning itself to become a major African hub for indigenous defence manufacturing, according to the Chief Executive Officer of DICON-D7G, Osman Chennar.
Chennar said growing local capacity and strategic partnerships are helping reduce Nigeria’s dependence on imported military hardware. He made the remarks following Nigeria’s participation in the 2026 El Alamein International Airshow in Egypt.
According to him, DICON-D7G, a partnership between the Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria and D7G Limited, is focused on producing military hardware locally and strengthening the country’s defence manufacturing capacity. He also disclosed that arrangements are at an advanced stage for a military jetty in Lagos.
Chennar said Nigeria’s participation in defence exhibitions in Doha, Ankara and Cairo demonstrates what he described as steady progress in indigenous defence manufacturing and could create opportunities for greater regional cooperation.
