SUPER EAGLES TO FACE RUSSIA IN OCTOBER FRIENDLY

Listen

Nigeria’s Super Eagles will face Russia in an international friendly at the 44,000-capacity Nizhny Novgorod Stadium on October 6, according to FIFA Match Agent Jairo Pachon of Eurodatasports.

The fixture will be the second meeting between both countries in 16 months. Their previous encounter in Moscow on June 6, 2025 ended 1-1, with Russia taking the lead through a Semi Ajayi own goal before Tolu Arokodare equalised for Nigeria in the second half.

The friendly will provide the Super Eagles with another opportunity to prepare for upcoming competitions after Nigeria missed out on qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The team recently drew 2-2 with Poland in Warsaw before losing 1-2 to Portugal in Meira.

Nigeria will first begin its 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign against Madagascar at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo on September 25, before travelling to Bissau to face Guinea-Bissau’s Wild Dogs on September 29. The Russia friendly follows one week after the latter fixture.
