The Cross River Police Command and the University of Calabar (UNICAL) have strengthened their security partnership, with a renewed focus on tackling cultism, political thuggery, digital violence and other emerging security threats.
The Commissioner of Police, Mr Ajo Ordue, disclosed this during a meeting with UNICAL Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Offiong Offiong, in Calabar on Wednesday. He said the command would introduce the Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices (POCACOV) programme at the university to promote sensitisation against cultism, violence, drug abuse and other social vices.
Ordue also called for greater engagement with young people ahead of the 2027 general elections, warning against political thuggery, digital thuggery and online incitement.
UNICAL expressed its readiness to deepen its partnership with the police to help maintain a safe environment for teaching, learning and research.
