The Lagos State Government has donated two patrol vehicles to the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) to strengthen security around railway stations, corridors and facilities across the state.
The Executive Secretary of the Lagos State Security Trust Fund (LSSTF), Dr Ayodele Ogunsan, said the vehicles would support Police and NSCDC personnel attached to the NRC. He said the intervention was aimed at reassuring rail passengers and residents that the railway system remained safe.
Ogunsan urged the security agencies to use and maintain the vehicles strictly for patrol operations, warning that misuse or poor maintenance could affect future support. He said the LSSTF had established a monitoring unit to track donated security assets and pledged continued collaboration with the NRC.
NRC Managing Director, Dr Kayode Opeifa, thanked Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for supporting security and infrastructure around the railway community. Railway workers also called for more regular patrols, citing increasing theft of railway materials and personal belongings, while Police and NSCDC representatives pledged to put the vehicles to proper use.
