The Federal Government will close some sections of the First Niger Bridge from September 7 to September 21, 2026, to allow maintenance and repairs to be carried out.
The Acting Federal Controller of Works in Anambra, Timothy Emenike, disclosing this on Friday September 4, said the closure was necessary to fix vandalised sections of the bridge. He advised motorists and commuters who normally use the bridge to take note of the temporary restriction.
Emenike urged motorists to use the Second Niger Bridge as an alternative route throughout the maintenance period. He said the repair work would be carried out day and night to ensure it is completed as quickly as possible.
Emenike appealed to road users to cooperate with authorities and obey diversion signs to minimise delays and inconvenience during the 14-day maintenance exercise.
