The Lagos State Government is strengthening electricity and fibre-optic infrastructure to support digital transformation, attract technology investments and position the state as a major technology hub in Africa.
Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, represented by Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat at GITEX Nigeria Tech Expo and Future Economy Conference 2026 in Lagos, said the state was targeting 200MW to 400MW of procured electricity capacity, up from less than 60MW. Lagos also aims to achieve 97.5 per cent electricity availability by 2030, full metering and 24-hour electricity franchise zones.
Sanwo-Olu said Lagos laid about 3,000km of fibre infrastructure between 2019 and 2025 and was working towards a unified 6,000km network. The state is also deploying open-access ducts under its “dig once” policy to reduce repeated road excavation and make it easier for technology companies to expand connectivity.
The governor said Lagos’ technology ecosystem was valued at about $9 billion and had attracted nearly $3.9 billion in venture funding. GITEX Global CEO Trixie LohMirmand said Lagos had become a leading African centre for AI activities, creativity and funding, while AfCFTA Secretary-General Wamkele Mene highlighted Nigeria’s role in advancing digital trade across Africa.
