Troops of Operation HADIN KAI have foiled a terrorist attack on Kukawa in Borno State, with about 26 terrorists reportedly neutralised and 10 motorcycles destroyed during coordinated ground and air operations.
The terrorists attacked troops of 101 Special Forces Battalion around 10:50 p.m. on Aug. 28 but were repelled and forced to withdraw towards the Cross Kauwa axis. Air assets subsequently struck fleeing terrorists, while intelligence surveillance helped track their movement towards the Tunbuns/Kangarwa axis.
The military said a follow-up precision strike neutralised additional terrorists and destroyed 10 motorcycles, while ground troops recovered two motorcycles, ammunition and other items. Four military personnel sustained injuries and were evacuated for treatment, with the military saying they were in stable condition.
The Joint Task Force said troops had commenced further exploitation of the area and would sustain intelligence-led operations aimed at disrupting terrorist activities and protecting communities across the North-East.
