Nigerian troops have rescued the abducted king of Igbesi Kingdom in Kwara State and neutralised several terrorists in coordinated operations conducted across the country between Aug. 27 and Aug. 28.
According to an operational report released on Saturday, troops of Operation Savanna Shield, working with the police, forest guards and hunters, rescued the monarch and two women from a terrorist hideout in Isin Local Government Area. One terrorist was neutralised during the operation, while the rescued victims were taken to hospital for medical attention.
In Sokoto, troops of Operation Fansan Yamma neutralised two terrorists during an encounter at Maikujera and recovered two AK-47 rifles and three motorcycles. In Katsina, troops supported by tactical and air assets destroyed terrorist enclaves in Matazu and recovered an RPG-7, motorcycle, mobile phones and other items, while operations also disrupted planned attacks in parts of Sokoto.
The military said troops also safely detonated an improvised explosive device along the Gurusu-Gwashi Road in Zamfara, recovered rustled cattle in Plateau and neutralised another terrorist in Benue, where an AK-47 magazine and ammunition were recovered. The military said operations would continue to track fleeing terrorists, apprehend criminal elements and restore security in affected communities.
