The Plateau State Police Command has arrested some female students following a viral video showing the alleged assault of another female student in Pankshin Local Government Area.
The Command’s spokesperson, SP Alfred Alabo, said on Friday that Commissioner of Police Ayodeji Faniyan directed the Area Commander in Pankshin to immediately investigate the incident and arrest those involved. The suspects are students of the Federal University of Education, Pankshin.
Alabo said the arrested students would be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) after preliminary investigations and could be charged to court when the investigation is concluded. He condemned the alleged attack and warned against resorting to violence or taking the law into one’s hands.
The police spokesman also cautioned against recording and sharing violent acts online, saying such actions could attract additional charges under applicable cybercrime laws. He urged residents, particularly youths, to report grievances to the police or other authorised agencies and provide credible information to help prevent similar incidents.
