The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has facilitated the extradition of two Nigerians to the United States to face prosecution over alleged online sexual exploitation and sextortion involving teenage boys.
EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale said the suspects, Mudashiru Olawale and Adebola Adekunle, were extradited on Wednesday following separate investigations by the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). The cases allegedly involved the targeting of male minors and resulted in the deaths of two victims.
According to the EFCC, the alleged schemes involved online threats and the use of sexually explicit material to extort victims for money through channels including money remitters, gift cards and cryptocurrency. The commission said the FBI subsequently sought its assistance in identifying and investigating individuals linked to the cases.
Oyewale said extradition proceedings against Olawale were initially rejected by the Federal High Court in Lagos in June 2024. However, the Court of Appeal, Lagos Division, overturned the decision on July 7, 2026, clearing the way for his extradition.
The EFCC said the development further strengthened its collaboration with the FBI in tackling transnational internet-enabled crimes and protecting minors from online exploitation.
