Listen

Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to building a more peaceful, secure, prosperous and inclusive state as Delta marks 35 years since its creation.

Oborevwori made the pledge at a thanksgiving service at the Government House Chapel, Asaba, commemorating the state’s creation on Aug. 27, 1991. He described the anniversary as an opportunity to celebrate Delta’s achievements, reflect on its journey and renew the commitment to building a stronger future.

The governor commended successive administrations, political leaders and the people of Delta for their contributions to the state’s stability and development. He also highlighted the contributions of the state’s diverse ethnic groups, religious communities and non-indigenes, describing the diversity as a major strength and stressing that peace had remained a key driver of development.

Oborevwori said his administration would consolidate previous gains while prioritising infrastructure, education, healthcare, agriculture, human capital development and technology. He also pledged to strengthen institutions, support businesses and create opportunities for young people.

Oborevwori assured residents that the government would continue working with traditional and religious leaders, communities, labour, civil society and the private sector to build a better Delta.
