The Kaduna State Police Command has arrested a suspected gun runner and recovered two AK-49 rifles, hundreds of rounds of ammunition and other exhibits in separate operations across the state.
Commissioner of Police, CP Rabiu Muhammad, disclosed this on Thursday in Kaduna, saying the operations were part of sustained efforts to tackle banditry and other crimes. He said the suspected gun runner, identified as 39-year-old Kenneth, was arrested at Yan’Karfe Motor Park, Sabon Gari, Zaria, after operatives found two AK-49 rifles, 228 rounds of RPG ammunition, 275 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, five AK-47 magazines and suspected hard drugs in a sack he was carrying.
The command also arrested three suspected members of an armed bandit gang along the Abuja-Kaduna Expressway, while another suspect was apprehended in Sabon Tasha with a locally made double-barrel gun, ammunition, handcuff, POS machine, drilling machine and security uniforms. Police also intercepted a motorcyclist on Kachia Road carrying 134 rounds of AK-47 ammunition, allegedly sent by a suspected bandit identified as Yellow Mai-million.
Muhammad said other operations led to arrests linked to alleged robbery, rape, attempted phone theft and vandalisation of critical infrastructure, as well as the recovery of a stolen Kaduna State Water Board vehicle in Kano. He said investigations were ongoing, with some suspects still at large, and assured residents that the command would sustain intelligence-led operations, patrols and community engagement to combat criminal activities across Kaduna.
