The Onu, Egume/Okura District in Dekina Local Government Area of Kogi State, Chief Ochimana Simon Anu, has raised concerns over alleged cases of youths selling their kidneys to raise money for expensive motorcycles and other material possessions.
The monarch described the alleged practice as dangerous and unacceptable, urging young people to reject quick-money schemes that could permanently damage their health and future. He also warned individuals allegedly acting as agents for kidney buyers to leave the community or face sanctions.
Anu directed the establishment of a security committee to investigate cases involving youths and underage persons who suddenly acquire expensive motorcycles. The committee is expected to examine the sources of funds used to purchase motorcycles reportedly worth between 1 and 2 million naira.
The traditional ruler urged youths to pursue legitimate livelihoods, acquire useful skills and avoid activities that could endanger their lives. He also called on parents, community leaders and residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities.
Anu warned that anyone found involved in alleged kidney-selling activities would face sanctions under the traditional laws and customs of the community. He reaffirmed his commitment to protecting the health and wellbeing of residents of Egume.
