Women Initiative for Sustainable Environment (WISE) has urged young Nigerians to turn climate concerns into practical solutions that can protect the environment and improve livelihoods.
Speaking in Zaria during the ECOCARE Initiative 2026 awareness workshop and briquette production training, WISE Executive Director, Mrs Olanike Olugboji-Daramola, said youths should focus on developing solutions to climate challenges rather than being overwhelmed by climate anxiety.
She said the programme, organised with the Energy and Environmental Law Club of Ahmadu Bello University, provided youths and women with knowledge and practical skills in environmental protection, energy transition and clean cooking. She noted that improved cookstoves could significantly reduce household spending on cooking fuel while helping to curb deforestation.
Olugboji-Daramola encouraged both men and women to participate in environmental initiatives, stressing that sustainability required collective responsibility. She also urged participants to develop innovative climate solutions that could attract funding and be replicated in other communities.
The Chairman of the Energy and Environmental Law Club, Hasheer Hamzat, said the partnership was designed to combine environmental education and advocacy with practical community solutions. He explained that briquette production could convert waste and biomass into alternative fuel, helping to reduce dependence on firewood and address waste management, pollution and deforestation.
