Nigeria’s women’s beach volleyball team has secured a historic qualification for the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles, after defeating Morocco 2-0 in the final of the 2026 CAVB Women’s Beach Volleyball Championship in Alexandria, Egypt.
The Nigerian duo dominated both sets, winning 21-17 and 21-10 to clinch the gold medal and book Nigeria’s place at the Olympic Games for the first time in the sport’s history.
Earlier on Saturday, the team defeated Mozambique 2-0 in the semi-final, winning both sets 21-17 and 21-17 to set up the final against Morocco.
President of the Nigeria Volleyball Federation, Musa Nimrod, described the achievement as a victory for the entire country after several near misses. He noted that Nigeria had previously reached the final three times but finished as runners-up on each occasion.
Nimrod congratulated Nigerians, saying the success on the fourth attempt had finally delivered the Olympic ticket and represented a major milestone for Nigerian beach volleyball.
