The Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) has urged education stakeholders to strengthen the implementation of the HOPE-EDU Programme to improve literacy, numeracy and overall learning outcomes in Nigerian basic schools.
UBEC Executive Secretary, Dr Aisha Garba, gave the charge at a regional workshop for State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) directors and support officers from the South-West and North-Central zones in Ikeja, Lagos. The workshop, which began on Aug. 16, will run until Aug. 26.
Garba said the training focused on Result Area 1 of HOPE-EDU, particularly the Structured Pedagogy Package and book supply chain systems. She explained that the initiative would strengthen teacher training, teaching methods and learning assessments through evidence-based approaches.
She also highlighted the Book Supply Chain and Track and Trace System, designed to ensure that quality learning materials reach schools and pupils transparently. Garba said states must demonstrate readiness by Nov. 15 to qualify for the first round of programme disbursements.
The UBEC boss urged participants to turn lessons from the workshop into practical action plans and measurable improvements in classrooms, stressing that successful implementation would be critical to strengthening the foundation of basic education across Nigeria.
