ARMY STRENGTHENS WELFARE, PREPARES SENIOR OFFICERS FOR POST-SERVICE CAREERS

Listen

The Nigerian Army has strengthened its personnel welfare programme with the launch of a career transition initiative designed to prepare senior officers for productive lives and careers after military service.

The Senior Executive Career Transition Programme (SECTP), Cohort 2, organised by the Nigerian Army Heritage and Future Centre, is aimed at equipping officers with skills and knowledge to navigate retirement and civilian career opportunities.

Former Chief of Army Staff, retired Lt.-Gen. Faruk Yahaya, urged participants to view retirement as a new chapter rather than the end of their professional journey. He said leadership, discipline, integrity and strategic expertise gained during military service could remain valuable assets in civilian life.

The Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Waidi Shaibu, represented by the Chief of Logistics, Maj.-Gen. A.A. Adeyinka, described the programme as a major welfare intervention. He said officers should retire with not only their statutory benefits but also the confidence and knowledge needed to succeed beyond active service.

The Director-General of the Army Heritage and Future Centre, Maj.-Gen. Tariweriye Gagariga, said the programme would focus on areas including mentorship, financial planning and professional guidance. He added that well-prepared retirees could continue contributing to Nigeria’s security, governance and socio-economic development.
