A 19-year-old automotive enthusiast from Katsina State, Ishaq Jamilu, has attracted international attention for an innovative electric vehicle design developed through self-learning and practical experience.
Jamilu, from Kusada Local Government Area, said his passion for automobiles began at an early age. He built his skills through online research, technical drawing, 3D modelling and hands-on experience as a vehicle mechanic.
His electric vehicle concept was recognised by International Art Magazine Japan, which featured the project in an article titled “Revolutionising Affordable Electric Vehicles: Reducing Costs Without Sacrificing Performance.” Jamilu said the design aims to make electric mobility more affordable while maintaining efficiency, durability and functionality.
The teenager said the recognition has encouraged him to pursue formal education and professional training in automotive design. He hopes to develop his concept into a functional vehicle and contribute to affordable and environmentally friendly transportation in Nigeria.
Jamilu, who has previously modified and redesigned a Peugeot 406 Sedan, called for greater support for young Nigerian innovators through mentorship, specialised training and access to modern equipment.
