Five people, including four construction workers and a 14-year-old student, have died after two buildings under construction collapsed in separate incidents in Kano State.
The Kano State Fire Service said the first incident occurred at Gaida in Kumbotso Local Government Area, where six workers were trapped after a building collapsed. Two workers were rescued, while four others were recovered unconscious and later confirmed dead at Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital.
The deceased workers were identified as Sunusi Siraju, 18; Bashir Ibrahim, 20; Ibrahim, 26; and Abubakar, 30. The cause of the collapse is being investigated.
In a separate incident at an Islamiyya school in Kurna, Fagge Local Government Area, eight students were rescued alive, while 14-year-old Khadija Muhammad was brought out unconscious and later confirmed dead. The survivors were handed over to the school authorities.
The Fire Service urged building owners, contractors and construction workers to observe safety precautions and comply with approved building standards to reduce the risk of building collapses.
