The Nigerian Film Institute (NFI), Jos, Plateau State, has matriculated 233 students into its Film Production academic programme as part of efforts to develop skilled professionals for Nigeria’s growing creative industry.
The NFI, established by the Nigerian Film Corporation in 1995 and affiliated with the University of Jos, provides specialised training for young Nigerians seeking careers in film and related creative fields.
Speaking at the matriculation ceremony, NFC Managing Director and CEO, Dr Ali Nuhu, urged the new students to take full advantage of the opportunity to acquire practical skills, knowledge and professional competencies. He said their training would position them to contribute to the future development of Nigeria’s film industry.
Nuhu, who is also Chairman of the NFI Governing Council, said the students would study Film Production and earn Bachelor’s Degrees in Film Arts after completing their three- to four-year programme. He noted that the training would help address the growing demand for skilled professionals in the creative economy.
University of Jos Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Tanko Ishaya, advised the students to maintain good conduct and avoid activities that could disrupt their studies, stressing that Nigeria’s expanding creative sector needed a well-trained workforce.
The NFI reaffirmed its commitment to providing quality training in film production, content creation and development, and cinematography, while preparing young Nigerians for opportunities in the creative industry.
