NGX SEEKS STRONGER PARTNERSHIP WITH HONG KONG EXCHANGE

Listen

The Nigerian Exchange Group (NGX Group) has called for stronger institutional cooperation with Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing (HKEX) to deepen capital market linkages and investment flows between Africa and Asia.

NGX Group Chairman, Dr Umaru Kwairanga, made the call after meeting HKEX officials in Hong Kong. He described the Hong Kong exchange as a major global market gateway and said NGX shared a similar ambition of building globally competitive infrastructure to support economic growth and efficient capital allocation in Africa.

Kwairanga proposed a formal cooperation framework involving annual executive meetings, technical working groups and knowledge-sharing programmes. He said collaboration could cover cross-border listings, exchange-traded funds, depositary receipts, investor access and broader capital market integration.

He also expressed interest in HKEX’s expertise in exchange technology, artificial intelligence, market surveillance, digital infrastructure, data commercialisation and product innovation. Sustainable finance, including green finance, climate disclosure, transition finance and carbon markets, was identified as another potential area of cooperation.

The NGX chairman proposed staff training, technical secondments, joint research and market development initiatives, alongside annual investment forums, investor conferences and issuer roadshows to showcase opportunities across Africa and Asia.

He said stronger ties between the two exchanges would promote knowledge transfer, attract international investment, deepen market integration and support sustainable economic growth across both continents.
