Nigeria exceeded its Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) crude oil production quota for the third consecutive month in July 2026, according to the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC).
The commission said in its July production report that Nigeria produced an average of 1.505 million barrels of crude oil per day, alongside 0.17 million barrels of condensate. Combined production reached 1.67 million barrels per day, above the country’s OPEC quota of 1.5 million barrels per day.
Forcados Terminal recorded the highest average output at 322,340 barrels per day, followed by Bonny Terminal with 303,720 barrels. Qua Iboe, Escravos and Bonga terminals recorded 158,020, 131,410 and 100,230 barrels per day respectively.
Despite exceeding its OPEC quota, overall production declined by four per cent month-on-month, with the NUPRC attributing the drop to operational challenges at the Erha and Akpo oil fields.
The commission said production and crude evacuation activities remained largely stable across other assets, while operators continued efforts to address the affected facilities and restore production capacity.
The NUPRC said the July performance highlighted the importance of proactive asset management and operational resilience, adding that timely interventions would be critical to sustaining growth in Nigeria’s upstream petroleum sector.
