The National Automotive Design and Development Council (NADDC) says it plans to train at least 1,000 National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members annually in Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) vehicle retrofitting.
NADDC Director-General, Joseph Osanipin, disclosed this in Abuja during the launch of a CNG Retrofitting Training Programme being implemented with the NYSC under its Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development initiative.
The pilot phase will train 300 corps members across six locations — Abuja, Adamawa, Kano, Lagos, Edo and Enugu — with participants receiving practical training in vehicle conversion, maintenance, safety and other aspects of the emerging CNG value chain.
Osanipin said the programme would help build the skilled workforce needed to support Nigeria’s transition to cleaner energy, while creating opportunities for employment and entrepreneurship. The initiative is expected to run for three years before a comprehensive review.
The Minister of Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, and NYSC Director-General, Brig.-Gen. Olakunle Nafiu, said the programme would strengthen youth employability and entrepreneurship, with plans to expand participation as the initiative progresses.
