The Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) has called for stronger collaboration, innovation and resilience among government, regulators and industry stakeholders to position Nigeria for sustainable growth in the changing global energy landscape.
Speaking at the 49th Nigeria Annual International Conference and Exhibition (NAICE 2026) in Lagos, SPE Nigeria Council Chairman, Mr Francis Nwaochei, said Nigeria’s energy future would depend on sound policies, technological innovation, responsible production and improved ease of doing business. The conference is themed “Thriving in the Evolving Global Energy Landscape: Collaborative Growth and Resilience.”
Nwaochei highlighted the 2025 licensing round, the Federal Government’s Decade of Gas initiative and plans to address verified debts owed to power generation companies and gas suppliers through a N4 trillion bond as measures that could boost investment and strengthen the energy value chain.
He said Nigeria must also maximise its gas resources, increase domestic utilisation, strengthen local content and adopt emerging technologies to create long-term economic value. The three-day conference features technical sessions, policy discussions, technology exhibitions, innovation pitches and career development programmes.
Nwaochei urged students and young professionals to use the conference to build networks, acquire knowledge and prepare for leadership roles in the energy industry. He disclosed that NAICE 2027 would mark the conference’s Golden Jubilee, celebrating 50 years of contributions to Nigeria’s petroleum and energy sector.
