The Federal Government has commenced assessment of flood-affected sections of the Benin-Sagamu Expressway following heavy rainfall that disrupted movement along parts of the major highway.
Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, disclosed this on Monday during an inspection of affected areas around the Ore corridor in Odigbo Local Government Area of Ondo State. He identified three major flood-prone locations at Agofure, Adolak Junction near the Ore Flyover Bridge, and the Agric Section.
Umahi, represented by the Federal Controller of Works in Ondo, Olajide Hussein, said the ministry was conducting technical assessments to determine the causes of the flooding. The evaluation includes examining existing culverts and drainage channels, with possible measures such as resizing cross-culverts and desilting blocked waterways being considered.
The minister said the interventions were aimed at improving drainage capacity, preventing future flooding and ensuring safer movement along the expressway. He assured commuters and residents that the ministry would take necessary steps to mitigate the impact of heavy rainfall and maintain uninterrupted passage on the highway.
